Snap Launches Native Twitter Integration - Social Media News

Twitter and Snap are collaborating to integrate tweets directly into Snapchat, offering a built-in feature designed to encourage users to share content through interactive embeds rather than screenshots.

Snapchat users who also have Twitter accounts logged on their mobile devices will be able to utilize this functionality by selecting the share option on a tweet and then choosing the Snapchat icon. This will allow them to share the tweet, as well as react to or comment on it, directly with friends or through their Snapchat Story. It’s important to note that this feature will initially only function with tweets from public Twitter accounts; tweets from accounts set to private will not be shareable in this way.

Currently, this integration is available for iOS users, with plans to extend compatibility to Android devices in the near future.

snap launches a native twitter integrationConsidering the significant amount of content originating from Twitter that is shared on platforms like Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook, and Reddit, the introduction of this feature seems somewhat delayed given Twitter’s longevity. While Twitter has previously offered web embeds for embedding tweets in articles, its approach to social media sharing has largely relied on the less measurable and non-revenue generating practice of screenshots.

This new rollout represents a relatively straightforward product enhancement for Twitter, potentially attracting new users who may experience content directly from the original source. This strategy aligns with the company’s long-term marketing goals, which they are now implementing through a direct integration with another platform.

With Twitter recently launching its own Stories feature, known as Fleets, the company likely believes it has developed sufficient familiarity with this format to attract new users from Snapchat who may not have previously explored the Twitter platform.

Direct integrations between social media platforms are not commonplace; screen recordings and screenshots often present content in a less-than-ideal manner when shared across different services. This integration is made possible by updates to Snap’s Snap Kit API, specifically through a feature called Creative Kit. Snap reports that other applications, including Spotify, Reddit, SoundCloud, Sendit, YOLO, and GOAT, have also developed integrations to facilitate content sharing on Snapchat.

Twitter has indicated that expanding this feature to additional platforms is a possibility.

A Twitter representative confirmed to TechCrunch that “This partnership with Snap was specifically focused on this integration.” They further stated, “We are eager to collaborate with other platforms to enable broader sharing of Tweets. We anticipate this being the first of many similar integrations.”
