Slapdash Raises $3.7M Seed Funding - Command Bar for Workplace Apps

The Rise of Productivity Software and the Challenge of Information Access
The significant increase in productivity software, coinciding with the widespread adoption of remote work, represents a notable impact of the recent pandemic. However, mastering numerous new applications and determining data locations can, paradoxically, diminish worker efficiency. Time spent on these tasks, even for routine actions like accessing a calendar, clicking links, or initiating a Zoom call, can accumulate.
Slapdash: A New Approach to Workplace Efficiency
Slapdash is positioning itself within the competitive landscape of workplace software by prioritizing optimal performance. The product aims to reduce the time required to locate data within cloud applications or execute specific actions. Unlike many integration-focused software suites that emphasize visibility or workflow redesign across various SaaS platforms, Slapdash founder Ivan Kanevski believes a faster route to information will encourage tech professionals to incorporate another tool into their daily routines.
The company has secured $3.7 million in seed funding, as reported to TechCrunch, with contributions from investors including S28 Capital, Quiet Capital, Quarry Ventures, UP2398, and Twenty Two Ventures. Angel investors participating in this round include co-founders from companies such as Patreon, Docker, and Zynga.
Kanevski explains that the team drew inspiration from successful applications like Superhuman, which have popularized low-latency command-line interface navigation. They also studied the sophisticated internal tools utilized by companies like Facebook, where he previously worked as a software engineer for almost six years.
Functionality and Features of Slapdash
Once installed, Slapdash’s command-line widget is accessible from any location using a keyboard shortcut. Users can then search across a wide range of integrated applications, including Slack, Zoom, Jira, and approximately 20 others. In addition to command-line access, the desktop application allows users to organize files and actions into folders and customize keyboard shortcuts for rapid task completion.
The application is compatible with Mac, Windows, Linux, and web platforms.
“Our intention isn’t to replace the applications you already use with Slapdash,” Kanevski clarifies. “We are not developing document editing or project management tools, as our core principle is to remain a neutral platform.”
Pricing and Scalability
Slapdash offers a free plan for users who index up to five applications and create a maximum of 10 commands and spaces. Beyond these limits, a paid subscription is required at $12 per month. Enterprise-level pricing is customized based on specific organizational needs.
Kanevski believes the app’s value to individual users will be a significant advantage when expanding to larger organizations. “To successfully deploy this within larger companies, it’s crucial that individual users find the software enjoyable and beneficial,” he states. “We are confident that we’ve created something genuinely helpful and delightful, even at the individual level.”
