Slack for Oculus Quest: Collaboration in VR is Coming!

Slack and Other 2D Apps Coming to Oculus
Users of virtual reality headsets will soon have the ability to access Slack and other 2D applications directly within the VR environment.
Expanding App Availability on Oculus
During Facebook’s Connect conference, a new framework was demonstrated. This framework is designed to facilitate the integration of 2D applications into the Oculus Store.
The intention is to reduce the need for users to frequently exit VR to view notifications or interact with apps on their mobile devices.
Current and Future App Support
While several Facebook applications are currently accessible, the company confirmed that Slack will be added to the Oculus Store in the near future.
Previously, 2D application support on the Quest was limited, primarily relying on the Oculus web browser.
Enhanced Communication Features
Facebook has already implemented native support for Messenger on the Oculus Quest 2.
Furthermore, the company announced plans to introduce support for audio calls to the platform.
Horizon Workrooms and the Need for App Integration
The launch of Horizon Workrooms, a VR meeting simulator compatible with Zoom, highlighted the importance of broader app support.
A significant obstacle to a truly productive VR experience was the limited availability of essential applications.
Considerations for VR Typing
Given the challenges associated with typing in VR, this new functionality will likely be most beneficial for users who have connected a keyboard to their headset.
Alternatively, it will be useful for those who primarily wish to quickly check notifications rather than compose extensive messages.
