Harness Updates: Significant Changes 7 Months After Drone Acquisition

Harness Enhances Open-Source CI Project Formerly Known as Drone

A common sentiment expressed by CEOs following an acquisition is the belief that the acquired company will achieve greater success with the acquirer’s resources than it could independently. Brad Rydzewski, co-founder of Drone, affirms this, stating that his company has significantly benefited from integration with Harness just seven months post-acquisition.

The project, previously known as Drone, has been rebranded as “Harness CI Community Edition.” Rydzewski confirms that Jyoti Bansal, Harness CEO and founder, has honored his commitment to ongoing development of the open-source Drone product.

Access to Expanded Resources

“Since the acquisition seven months ago, substantial community efforts have focused on leveraging the resources now available through Harness,” Rydzewski explained. “This includes access to design professionals and skilled writers – resources typically unavailable to most open-source initiatives.”

He emphasizes that these additional resources have allowed for a higher degree of refinement in the project than would have been feasible without the support of Harness. Simultaneously, the CI team has expanded from the original two co-founders to a team of fifteen, enabling the development of a professional CI tool integrated within the broader Harness toolset.

Key Updates to the Community Edition

A significant update to the community edition is a redesigned, more streamlined interface offering a distinctly professional aesthetic. Developers now have access to a visualization tool for tracking project progress through the pipeline.

Furthermore, the update introduces real-time debugging capabilities alongside enhanced governance and security features.

A Transformation for Drone

Rydzewski, accustomed to operating with limited funding prior to the acquisition, views these advancements as a considerable advantage. “Drone originated as a modest open-source project, but now it can confidently compete with any product currently on the market, even those backed by substantial investment,” he stated.

Harness’s investment has demonstrably elevated the project’s capabilities and market position.
