ServiceNow No-Code Capabilities: Empowering Citizen Developers

The Rise of No-Code Tools and ServiceNow's Latest Innovations

The recent pandemic has significantly impacted business operations, compelling organizations to reassess and expedite existing trends. A prominent shift is the increasing adoption of no-code tools, empowering business users to independently create applications and automate workflows without relying on dedicated engineering teams.

Responding to this growing demand, ServiceNow has unveiled a suite of new tools as part of its most recent platform release.

Distributed Teams and the Need for Accessible Software Development

Dave Wright, ServiceNow’s chief innovation officer, highlights how the shift to remote work environments, accelerated by COVID-19, has underscored the importance of democratizing software development.

He explains that with reduced access to traditional support structures, the ability to create software with a user-friendly experience is crucial for driving adoption.

“Successful software implementation leads to improved employee productivity and increased employee engagement,” Wright stated.

Introducing Creator Workflows

Traditionally, ServiceNow’s platform has centered around three core areas: customer service, IT, and HR. However, to facilitate innovation beyond these established domains, the company has introduced a new capability called Creator Workflows.

These workflows are specifically designed to enable employees to construct customized solutions tailored to their unique requirements.

AppEngine Studio serves as the primary development environment, allowing users to assemble workflows by simply dragging and dropping necessary components.

Furthermore, pre-built templates streamline the process by providing a foundation for common tasks, enhancing ease of use.

Enhanced Search Capabilities with AI Search

The latest release also integrates technologies from recent acquisitions, including Loom Systems and Attivio.

Attivio’s technology has been repurposed into a platform-wide search functionality known as AI Search.

“AI Search delivers personalized and contextualized results, ensuring users receive information that is highly relevant and actionable,” Wright explained.

AIOps Integration through Loom Systems

The acquisition of Loom Systems has brought AIOps capabilities to the ServiceNow platform, enabling the integration of artificial intelligence across various functionalities.

Gab Menachem, former CEO and co-founder of Loom Systems, describes the integration process as seamless.

“The focus has been on incorporating Loom’s technology into existing workflows to naturally enhance employee productivity and maintain high levels of engagement,” Menachem said.

He added that the transition into ServiceNow has resulted in increased customer satisfaction.
