Sennheiser Sells Consumer Audio Business | News

Sennheiser Consumer Brand Acquisition by Sonova
Renowned German audio manufacturer Sennheiser has revealed a buyer for its consumer division. Sonova, a Swiss holding company and leading provider of hearing solutions, is set to acquire the brand.
Deal Details and Expected Timeline
The acquisition is anticipated to be finalized before the close of the current calendar year. This move will expand Sonova’s product range to include headphones and soundbars, complementing its existing focus on healthcare-related audio products.
Implications for the Hearables Market
This transaction could significantly impact the evolving hearables category. These devices often bridge the gap between traditional headphones and sophisticated healthcare technologies.
Sennheiser's Strategic Shift
Following the sale, Sennheiser will concentrate exclusively on its professional audio products. The company had previously indicated its intention to seek a buyer for its consumer business earlier this year.
Company Statements on the Sale
In February, Co-CEO Daniel Sennheiser explained the rationale behind the decision. He stated the company aimed to maximize potential by focusing resources on its Professional division and finding a robust partner for the Consumer business.
A "Permanent Cooperation"
Sennheiser characterizes the agreement as a “permanent cooperation,” encompassing the licensing of its brand name. The consumer division, along with a substantial portion of its workforce, will transition to Sonova.
Workforce Transition
Currently, approximately 600 individuals are employed within the Sennheiser consumer brand. Details regarding the number of employees who will move to Sonova have not yet been disclosed.
Future Growth Prospects
The other Co-CEO expressed optimism about the partnership. They believe the combined strengths of both companies will foster future growth and enable Sonova to capitalize on emerging opportunities within the consumer audio market.
“We are confident that Sonova will fortify the Sennheiser Consumer Business in the long run and effectively seize major growth prospects,” the Co-CEO added.
