Samsung Exploring New Wearable Tech: Earrings & Necklaces

Samsung Expands Beyond Smartwatches with New Wearable Tech
Last year marked the debut of Samsung’s initial smart ring, designed specifically for fitness tracking. This addition broadened the company’s portfolio of wearable devices, which has historically been dominated by smartwatches.
Now, Samsung intends to augment its offerings with a wider array of wearables, exploring diverse designs such as glasses, earrings, and necklaces, as reported by CNN.
Focus on Phone-Free Functionality
According to CNN, Won-joon Choi, Chief Operating Officer of Samsung’s mobile experience division, articulated the company’s vision to investigate wearable technologies that enable users to interact and perform tasks independently of their smartphones.
Choi stated, as quoted by CNN, that the ideal wearable “should be wearable, something that you shouldn’t carry… you don’t need to carry.” He further elaborated that this could encompass items like glasses, earrings, watches, rings, and even necklaces.
Collaborations and Technological Advancements
Samsung previously announced its collaboration with Google on the development of smart glasses earlier in the year.
Furthermore, reports from the Korea Economic Daily in May indicated that Samsung is actively engaged in creating a sophisticated microdisplay intended for use in AR glasses.
These developments signal Samsung’s commitment to innovation within the wearable technology sector, moving beyond traditional smartwatch designs.
The company is clearly aiming to create a more integrated and seamless user experience, reducing reliance on handheld mobile devices.
