HelloFresh Becomes First Non-Amazon Customer for Rivian Vans

HelloFresh Integrates Rivian Electric Vans into Delivery Operations
HelloFresh, a prominent meal-kit provider, has significantly expanded its commitment to sustainable logistics by incorporating 70 all-electric Rivian vans into its delivery fleet.
This acquisition marks a pivotal moment, as HelloFresh is the first major company to purchase these commercial electric vehicles following Rivian’s conclusion of an exclusive supply agreement with Amazon.
Impact on HelloFresh's Sustainability Goals
The introduction of these 70 electric vans constitutes almost 25% of HelloFresh’s total fleet.
Early results indicate substantial environmental benefits, with the company estimating a reduction of 20,000 gallons of gasoline consumed and a decrease of 200 tonnes in CO2 emissions, as detailed in a recent company blog post.
Rivian's Expansion Beyond Amazon
Rivian has been actively seeking to broaden its customer base since the expiration of its exclusive agreement with Amazon in November 2023.
However, the official opening of its commercial van fleet business to other organizations wasn't until February 2025.
During the intervening period, Rivian focused on preparing for wider adoption by establishing robust service and digital infrastructure, and gathering valuable feedback through pilot programs with potential fleet clients.
HelloFresh as a Pioneering Customer
While Rivian has conducted numerous trials with prospective fleet partners, HelloFresh is the first to publicly announce its adoption of the vans and integrate them into active service.
This demonstrates a tangible step towards the electrification of last-mile delivery services.
Continued Amazon Partnership
Despite expanding its customer base, Rivian continues to fulfill its commitment to Amazon, maintaining production of commercial vans for the e-commerce giant.
Production of these vans commenced in 2021, following Amazon’s initial order of 100,000 vehicles, intended to lessen the company’s environmental footprint.
Amazon's Early Investment in Rivian
Amazon’s involvement with Rivian extends beyond a simple purchase order.
Prior to the exclusivity agreement, Amazon spearheaded a $700 million investment round in Rivian, signaling a strong belief in the company’s potential.
Current Amazon Fleet Size
As of February, Amazon’s fleet included 20,000 commercial vans manufactured by Rivian, showcasing the scale of their ongoing partnership.
