Rivian R1T & R1S EPA Range Officially Revealed

Rivian R1T and R1S EPA Range Officially Confirmed
Rivian revealed on Friday that the first-edition iteration of its fully electric R1T pickup truck achieves an official EPA-estimated range of 314 miles.
The R1S SUV, conversely, offers a slightly extended range, registering at 316 miles according to the EPA.
Official EPA Ratings Released
The finalized range and fuel economy figures are now publicly available on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) website.
These official numbers correspond closely with Rivian’s prior projections, which had previously been advertised as approximately 300 miles.
Understanding EPA Estimates
While EPA assessments cannot fully replicate diverse driving habits, the standardized test procedure provides a reliable benchmark for prospective electric vehicle buyers.
Rivian currently benefits from being the initial manufacturer to introduce an all-electric truck to the market.
Comparison with Ford F-150 Lightning
The Ford F-150 Lightning, anticipated to launch in spring 2022, targets a range of 230 miles for its standard configuration.
The extended-range version of the F-150 Lightning aims for up to 300 miles.
However, the EPA has yet to publish official range figures for the Ford Lightning.
Launch Edition Battery Pack
Both the “Launch edition” R1T truck and R1S SUV are equipped with a 135-kWh battery pack, designated as the “large pack.”
Deliveries of these Launch Edition vehicles are scheduled to commence this month.
Trim Levels and Pricing
The R1T and R1S will be available in two distinct trims, each offering the same 135-kWh battery option.
The R1T Adventure trim, featuring a premium interior, has a starting price of $73,000.
The R1T Explore trim begins at $67,500.
The R1S SUV Adventure trim starts at $75,500, while the Explore package is priced at $70,000.
Delivery Timeline
Rivian plans to initiate deliveries of both the Adventure and Explore packages in January 2022.
Future Battery Pack Options
Rivian also intends to offer a larger battery pack, known as the “Max pack,” for the R1T.
This enhanced pack carries an additional cost of $10,000 and is projected to extend the R1T’s range beyond 400 miles.
The EPA has not yet released official range data for the Max pack or other forthcoming editions, including a planned smaller battery pack alternative.
