Ring Alarm System Adds Broken Glass Detector

Ring Expands Home Security with New Glass Break Sensor
At this year’s CES, Ring, a company owned by Amazon, unveiled a significant addition to its comprehensive home security system. The newly released Ring Alarm Glass Break Sensor is engineered to identify the distinct sound of shattering glass from a distance of up to 25 feet.
Upon detection, the sensor immediately transmits a notification to the user’s mobile application, enabling prompt action. This allows homeowners to respond quickly to potential security breaches.
Sensor Functionality and Integration
The sensor’s capabilities extend beyond simple alerts. It can be configured to activate a built-in siren or to notify Ring’s professional home monitoring service, a feature available with a premium subscription.
Users may wish to adjust the sensor’s sensitivity, particularly during activities like watching movies featuring glass-breaking scenes – such as the classic film Die Hard – to avoid false alarms.
This new device complements Ring’s existing suite of sensors, including contact sensors and motion detectors, effectively enhancing the system’s overall awareness.
Synergy with Alexa Guard
The introduction of the Glass Break Sensor aligns with Amazon’s broader efforts in proactive home security. Previously, Amazon launched Alexa Guard, which allows Echo devices to recognize sounds like breaking glass and activated smoke detectors.
This functionality was initially integrated into the Amazon Echo Show 15, announced in the prior year, demonstrating a unified approach to smart home security.
Availability and Pricing
Pre-orders for the Ring Alarm Glass Break Sensor begin today, with a price point of $40. Shipping is scheduled to commence on February 16th, offering a timely option for those seeking to enhance their home security.
Installation is versatile, allowing placement on doors, mounting to walls, or positioning on furniture near glass windows. Amazon also announced further updates to its Fire TV platform during CES.
The sensor is designed to provide an additional layer of protection for homes equipped with the Ring Alarm system.
