Reddit Year in Review: Personalized Recaps Coming Soon

Reddit Introduces Personalized Year-End Recaps

A new, individualized recap feature, similar to Spotify’s Wrapped, is being rolled out by Reddit for all of its users starting tomorrow. These recaps will present a diverse range of statistics.

Included will be a summary of the time spent on the platform, an overview of content interacted with or contributed to, and details on engaged topics and communities viewed or joined. Reddit confirms users have the option to conceal their username and avatar when sharing these recaps on other social media platforms.

Shift from Aggregate to Individual Data

Previously, Reddit’s year-end summaries concentrated exclusively on platform-wide aggregated trends. This year marks the introduction of a personalized, in-product experience for each user.

The personalized recaps utilize user browsing and engagement data collected between January 1st, 2021, and November 30th, 2021.

Reddit's Perspective on Community Expression

“Expression is fundamental to Reddit’s communities, ranging from reactions to game discussions in r/nba to sharing videos of everyday moments,” stated a Reddit spokesperson.

“Reddit Recap highlights the communities each Redditor actively participated in and the experiences they shared with others throughout the past year.”

The Rise of Year-End Recaps

End-of-year recaps have gained significant traction, largely due to the widespread sharing of Spotify’s annual Wrapped feature across social media.

Following its success, numerous companies, including Apple, YouTube, Snapchat, and now Reddit, are developing similar features for their respective platforms.

Alongside the launch of recaps, Reddit has published data concerning the most prevalent themes on the platform during 2021.
