Following the disturbances and acts of violence occurring in Washington, D.C., various social media companies are addressing the consequences. A representative from Reddit communicated the following to TechCrunch:

The platform has not observed a significant alteration in user engagement prior to the events involving the breach of the U.S. Capitol—a circumstance potentially linked to the earlier prohibition of several subreddits, such as The_Donald, due to policy breaches earlier in the year.

This announcement mirrors comparable statements released by Twitter:

The evolving response to the unfolding events is readily apparent as this extraordinary and troubling situation progresses in Washington, D.C. Currently, a substantial degree of content moderation on Reddit is being managed by the platform’s volunteer moderators.
