Reddit Unveils New Tools for Businesses and AMA Advertising

During the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Reddit announced the release of new trends tools designed for businesses. Simultaneously, a novel advertising format was introduced for its popular Ask Me Anything (AMA) Q&A sessions.

These announcements followed a record-breaking fiscal quarter for Reddit. The social media platform reported exceeding 100 million daily active users in Q3 2024. This represents a substantial 47% increase compared to the previous year.

Reddit Pro Trends: Understanding User Discussions

Reddit’s complimentary suite of tools for brands, known as Reddit Pro, is being enhanced with Reddit Pro Trends. This feature enables companies to monitor discussions surrounding “virtually any topic” occurring on the Reddit platform, as detailed in a recent blog post.

Located within a dedicated “Trends” tab in the Reddit Pro menu, businesses can now track specific keywords or phrases. These can include brand names, product designations, categories, and emerging viral trends.

The system provides real-time insights into when, where, and how Reddit users are engaging in conversations. For approximately 100,000 carefully selected keywords and phrases, businesses gain access to a visual representation of conversation volume.

  • A comprehensive list of communities mentioning the tracked keyword or phrase is provided.
  • A dynamic feed of relevant conversations is accessible.
  • Soon, a list of related keywords will also be available.

“Brands such as Wayfair and the NBA have already been utilizing Reddit Pro Trends during our testing phase. This allows them to identify and participate in discussions within communities eager to hear from them,” Reddit stated.

“For developing businesses like Nudge Security, Van Votz, and No Reception Club, these insights facilitate finding and connecting with their target audience on Reddit. In fact, Reddit Pro Trends contributed to a 12% increase in posts created by participating businesses.”

Introducing AMA Ads

Reddit is also launching AMA Ads, a new method for promoting AMA sessions across the Reddit platform. AMAs, Reddit’s signature Q&A format, allow experts to answer questions directly from Reddit users.

Businesses can now promote these AMA sessions directly through Reddit’s advertising dashboard. They can also monitor the number of RSVPs for each event.

Since its initial public offering last spring, Reddit has been intensely focused on expansion. In September, AI-powered translation was implemented across numerous new regions.

Furthermore, in November, Reddit announced plans to strengthen its presence in international markets, including the U.K., India, Brazil, and the Philippines.

Currently, the U.S. generates 83% of Reddit’s total revenue, according to its Q3 results. Reddit’s COO, Jen Wong, informed CNBC in a recent interview that the company intends to extend its local advertising capabilities to additional countries in the coming months.
