Porsche Taycan GTS Electric: Sedan & Sport Turismo

Porsche Expands Taycan Lineup with GTS Models
Porsche has reserved the versatile and performance-oriented GTS designation for the final two iterations of its all-electric Taycan.
The German manufacturer debuted the Taycan GTS sedan and a novel third body style, the Taycan GTS Sport Turismo, during an event Tuesday evening preceding the Los Angeles Auto Show. This addition completes the comprehensive Taycan vehicle range.
A Significant Investment
The unveiling of these two Taycan versions signifies the culmination of Porsche’s most substantial investment in over a generation. The company committed over $1 billion to the development of the four-door Taycan, initially presented in the autumn of 2019.
Subsequently, Porsche extended the Taycan’s reach into the all-electric wagon segment with the introduction of the Cross Turismo.
Ten Taycan Variants Available
With these latest additions, the Taycan family now comprises a total of ten distinct models. These include rear-wheel drive, 4, 4S, Turbo, and Turbo S versions, available in both sedan and Cross Turismo configurations.
However, it is the Taycan GTS variants, distinguished by their bespoke calibration and tuning for enhanced responsiveness and performance, that are anticipated to generate the most customer interest upon U.S. deliveries commencing in the second quarter of 2022.

The breadth of ten Taycan variants may seem extensive. Nevertheless, Kjell Gruner, CEO of Porsche North America, affirms that it aligns with the company’s commitment to satisfying individual customer preferences.
“We would never adopt a one-size-fits-all approach,” Gruner stated in a Tuesday interview. “This philosophy extends not only to the range of derivatives but also to the customization options within each derivative.”
Future Electric Vehicle Strategy
Having successfully implemented this multivariant strategy with the Taycan, Porsche intends to apply a similar approach to its forthcoming electric vehicle, referred to by Gruner as its “electric baby.”
This next EV will be the Macan, representing the first Porsche model constructed on its Premium Platform Electric architecture. The electric Macan is currently slated for release in 2023.
- The Taycan GTS models offer unique performance tuning.
- Porsche invested over $1 billion in the Taycan’s development.
- The Macan will be Porsche’s first vehicle on the PPE platform.
A Return to the Taycan GTS
The Taycan GTS distinguishes itself through unique exterior elements, featuring a front fascia, side skirts, and window trim finished in high-gloss black. Headlights are also subtly darkened with a black tint. The GTS designation is prominently displayed, adorning both the rear and side skirts of the vehicle.
The interior maintains the familiar infotainment system found in other Taycan models. This includes a multi-screen dashboard design incorporating subtle nods to the classic 1963 Porsche 911. Features such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, alongside automatic climate control and a charging planner, are standard.
The Taycan GTS Sport Turismo presents a compelling blend of the Taycan Cross Turismo wagon and the Taycan sedan. It’s characterized by a body-colored rear spoiler and the absence of wheel arch cladding. The Sport Turismo mirrors the Cross Turismo’s silhouette and cargo capacity, yet benefits from the lower ride height of the sedan, enhancing its sporty aesthetic and handling.

This roof utilizes nine electrically isolated liquid crystal film segments, functioning similarly to a digital display. Applying a charge renders each segment opaque. Drivers can select from four pre-programmed settings: clear, matte, 40%, and 60%. The roof automatically defaults to matte when the vehicle is off, and retains the driver’s last selected setting upon restart.

Both models employ the same permanent magnet single-speed front motor, a larger permanent magnet rear motor, and a two-speed rear transmission, enabling 0-60 mph acceleration in 3.5 seconds.
Both variants are equipped with a 93.4 kWh battery and an 800-volt architecture, facilitating rapid charging at speeds up to 270 kilowatts. This allows for a charge from 5% to 80% capacity in just 22.5 minutes.
Positioned between the Taycan 4S and the Taycan Turbo in terms of both price and performance, the GTS delivers a total output of 590 horsepower when utilizing its launch control system. The Taycan GTS sedan carries a starting price of $131,400, while the Taycan GTS Sport Turismo is priced slightly higher at $133,300. These figures exclude the $1,350 delivery, processing, and handling fee.
Official range estimates are still pending, but the GTS is anticipated to offer a range falling between the 4S and Turbo models, likely between 212 and 227 miles.
