Porsche Taycan Sales Surpass 911: Electric Car Revolution

Porsche Taycan Surpasses 911 in Sales

The fully electric Porsche Taycan has achieved a significant milestone, exceeding the sales figures of the iconic, gasoline-powered 911 sports car during the first nine months of the current year.

Sales Performance and Growth

Porsche reported global vehicle deliveries totaling 217,198 units for the first three quarters, marking a 13% increase compared to the previous year. This growth was largely propelled by a substantial, nearly threefold rise in Taycan deliveries.

The popular Macan, powered by a combustion engine, also contributed to this positive trend. These results demonstrate a recovery for Porsche, reversing the 5% sales decrease experienced between 2019 and 2020.

Model-Specific Sales Figures

Despite leading the overall portfolio with 62,451 units delivered, the Porsche Cayenne experienced a slight decline of 2.8% in sales compared to the same period in 2020.

Strong consumer interest in the Macan SUV, with a 12% increase in deliveries reaching 61,944 vehicles, alongside the performance of the Taycan and 911, drove Porsche’s overall sales growth.

Specifically, 28,640 Taycan vehicles were delivered between January and September, allowing it to surpass the Porsche 911.

Deliveries of the Porsche 911 reached 27,972 units, representing a 10% increase year-over-year.

Other Models and Future Plans

Sales of the Panamera totaled 20,275 units, while 15,916 units of the 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman models were delivered. Each of these figures showed an approximate 1% increase from the previous year.

Although combustion vehicles still constitute the majority of Porsche’s sales, the success of the Taycan is expected to reinforce the company’s commitment to electric vehicle development.

Porsche is preparing to launch an all-electric version of the Macan in 2023, further expanding its EV offerings.
