Poland’s Space Agency Responds to Cybersecurity Breach
The Polish space agency, POLSA, has announced ongoing efforts to reinstate services after experiencing a cybersecurity incident.
According to a statement released on X, POLSA, the governmental body overseeing Poland’s space programs, promptly severed its network connection to the internet upon detection of the cyberattack on Sunday.
Network Disconnection and Investigation
As of this moment, POLSA’s official website remains inaccessible.
Krzysztof Gawkowski, Poland’s Minister of Digital Affairs, corroborated the incident in a separate post, confirming that state cybersecurity teams had identified “unauthorized access” to POLSA’s IT infrastructure.
Investigations are currently underway to determine the source and perpetrators of the attack.
Incident Details and Previous Attacks
The specific details surrounding the nature of this incident have not yet been disclosed, and POLSA has not yet responded to inquiries from TechCrunch.
Earlier this year, Minister Gawkowski indicated to local news outlets that Poland faces the highest volume of cyber incidents within the European Union.
Attribution of Cyberattacks
Most of these incidents, he stated, are believed to originate from Russia.
Last year, Poland reported being targeted by APT28, a hacking group linked to Russian military intelligence and known for state-sponsored activities.
The country has been actively bolstering its cybersecurity defenses in response to these ongoing threats.
