Pokémon Go Level Cap Increase to 50 & New Pokémon Coming!

For the past four years, reaching level 40 within Pokémon GO represented the highest achievable milestone. While players were still able to continue capturing Pokémon and accumulating experience points, the prestigious level badge remained fixed at that point.

This will be altered later this month through an update that will raise the maximum level to 50, alongside the addition of new Pokémon and various other improvements to the game experience.

Here’s a summary of the updates:

  • Increased Level Cap: Beginning on November 30th, Pokémon GO players will be able to advance to a maximum level of 50. Niantic has confirmed that experience points already earned beyond Level 40 will be applied towards these new levels. However, progression from levels 41 to 50 requires more than just experience; each level introduces specific tasks to complete, like finishing 100 Field Research assignments or hatching 30 eggs, preventing players from instantly reaching the new maximum. This adjustment is particularly relevant for highly active players who have already surpassed the experience requirements for Level 40.
  • Experience Point System Adjustments: Niantic is modifying the amount of experience players receive from activities such as Pokémon captures and egg hatching, with the primary goal of streamlining the path to Level 40. Players who achieve Level 40 prior to the year's end will receive exclusive rewards, including a unique Gyarados hat for their avatar and a commemorative “Legacy 40” badge.
  • Arrival of New Pokémon: Pokémon originating from the “Kalos” region—first introduced in Pokémon X and Y—will become available in the game starting December 2nd.
  • Introduction of Seasons: Niantic is implementing a seasonal system within Pokémon GO. These seasons, which will rotate every three months depending on the player’s hemisphere, will influence Pokémon encounters and the available forms of certain Pokémon. In-game events will be aligned with each season, and the player-versus-player battle league will also follow a three-month seasonal schedule.

Niantic has given this substantial update a dedicated title: “Pokémon GO Beyond.” This represents the most significant update to the game in quite some time—and certainly the largest of the current year.
