Pinterest Updates: Favorites, Notes & New Toolbar

Pinterest is introducing several enhancements – including notes, favorites, and a board toolbar – to assist users who utilize boards for list-making, such as gift ideas, or who find it challenging to manage and categorize boards containing a substantial number of items. These updates arrive following a remarkably successful third quarter for the social media platform, benefiting from increased screen time during the COVID-19 pandemic, which led to more people shopping, connecting, and planning activities online.
Pinterest reports a 35% rise in the number of monthly boards created over the past six months, alongside a 30% increase in collaborative boards.
To simplify the process of remembering things to attempt or, particularly during the holiday season, items to purchase, a new “Notes to self” functionality may prove beneficial. This allows users to attach private notes to their Pins on both public and private boards, even those shared with collaborators. This capability is noteworthy as it could also function as a basic communication method for multiple individuals collaborating on projects, with Pinterest serving as the organizational hub.
Pinterest has been exploring ways to connect its users with a wider audience recently. As previously covered in November, Pinterest has been testing an online events feature, enabling influencers and creators to host classes, arrange course materials, and engage in group chats with participants. A “notes” feature was also included in this testing phase.A new board toolbar is also being released today, designed for boards with over 150 Pins. This toolbar streamlines navigation through Pins by providing access to actions users can take on the board, such as organizing content, creating to-do lists, or discovering related ideas.
A board favorites feature is launching concurrently to help users better manage boards with numerous Pins. While not limited to large boards, this feature can highlight a user’s most important Pins from an extensive collection. Users can designate a Pin as a favorite by utilizing the star icon on the board toolbar.Pinterest confirms that these features were developed based on user input and will not be utilized for ad targeting purposes. All three features are available worldwide and are being implemented across all platforms starting today.
