PhotoRoom Android App: Instant Background Removal

The French company PhotoRoom is making its application available on Android devices starting today. The firm has developed a practical photography application that enables users to eliminate photo backgrounds, replace them with different ones, and refine their images.
The app has already proven successful on iOS, contributing to the company’s participation in Y Combinator, a doubling of their yearly recurring income to $2 million, and the securing of $1.2 million in seed funding.
PhotoRoom has become particularly valuable for individuals involved in reselling clothing and fashion items, as well as social media influencers. These users utilize their smartphones as their primary tool for creative content creation. Similar to other professional-grade photography applications, the company generates income through a subscription model, priced at $9.49 monthly or $46.99 annually.
The functionality of PhotoRoom is powered by machine learning technology, which accurately identifies objects within a photograph and isolates them from the surrounding image. This allows for targeted adjustments and modifications to specific elements of the photo.
Following their seed funding round after completing the Y Combinator program, the startup secured investment from Adjacent fund, managed by Nicolas Wittenborn, and Liquid2 Ventures, along with support from two distinct investor groups:- A collective of angel investors specializing in machine learning, including Yann LeCun (lead AI scientist at Facebook), Zehan Wang (leader of Twitter Machine Learning Cortex and co-founder of Magic Poney), and Nicolas Pinto (founder of Perceptio).
- And a separate group of angel investors with expertise in mobile subscriptions, such as Holger Seim (Blinkist), Jacob Eiting (RevenueCat), John Bonten (advisor to Calm and Spotify), and Eric Setton (Tango).
The company intends to expand its team from three to eight members and further develop its deep learning algorithm with the capital obtained through this funding round. For those interested in a more detailed review of PhotoRoom, additional information about the product is available.
