Peloton Recall: 833,000 Bikes Recalled Due to Injury Reports

Peloton Recalls Approximately 833,000 Bike+ Machines

Peloton is conducting a recall of roughly 833,000 original Bike+ exercise machines. This action follows reports of seat post breakage during operation, as detailed by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

The CPSC has documented three complaints concerning this issue. Notably, two of these incidents resulted in injuries to users.

Recall Details and Timeline

The affected Bike+ units were sold between January 2020 and April 2025. The CPSC advises all owners of recalled bikes to “immediately cease using the exercise bikes.”

Márcio Oliveira, Peloton’s SVP of Global Hardware Operations and Product Safety, emphasized the company’s commitment to safety in a statement to TechCrunch. He stated that the company is prioritizing product integrity and member well-being.

Peloton is proactively offering replacement seat posts to all impacted Bike+ owners. Users are encouraged to contact the company to obtain the redesigned component as quickly as possible.

Previous Recalls and Company Challenges

This recall is not an isolated event. Peloton previously recalled approximately 2.2 million exercise bikes in 2023 due to safety concerns and reported customer injuries.

The current recall represents another challenge for Peloton. The company underwent significant changes last year, including a CEO replacement and workforce reductions.

Peloton is set to release its latest earnings report as it strives to restore growth following a decline in sales after the pandemic. The company’s stock has experienced a substantial decrease, falling over 90% since its peak in January 2021.

New Initiatives and Peloton IQ

In an effort to revitalize its business, Peloton recently unveiled its most significant product launch in several years.

The company has completely overhauled its hardware lineup and introduced Peloton IQ. This new system utilizes AI and computer vision to deliver personalized guidance to users.

Peloton’s new Cross Training Series encompasses five connected fitness devices: the Cross Training Bike, Bike+, Tread, Tread+, and Row+. Each device is equipped with an advanced Swivel Screen.

This screen facilitates seamless transitions between various workout types, including cardio, strength training, yoga, Pilates, and barre.

Peloton IQ provides goal-oriented coaching tailored to individual fitness levels. It also offers performance tracking, progress insights, and real-time feedback.

Leadership and Future Outlook

Peloton’s investment in AI signifies the first major product shift under the leadership of CEO Peter Stern.

Stern, a former executive from both Apple and Ford, assumed the role of CEO in January.
