Panasonic Data Breach: Hackers Access Job Candidate Information

Panasonic Confirms Data Breach Impacting Job Applicants and Interns
Panasonic, the prominent Japanese technology corporation, has officially acknowledged a security incident. This incident resulted in unauthorized access to the personal data of individuals applying for jobs and internships.
The cyberattack initially came to light on November 26th. Initially, the extent of the compromised data remained unclear. However, a recent update released on January 7th reveals that personal information pertaining to applicants and interns within specific company divisions was indeed accessed.
Details of the Security Breach
Panasonic is currently in the process of notifying all individuals whose data was potentially exposed. The company spokesperson, Dannea DeLisser, refrained from disclosing the precise number of affected individuals or the specific types of information compromised.
Investigations have determined the breach occurred between June 22nd and November 3rd, with detection taking place on November 11th. The unauthorized actors gained access to files containing “business-related information” supplied by partners.
Furthermore, data relating to personnel employed by these business partners was also compromised during the attack.
Investigation and Response
An internal investigation, conducted with the assistance of an external cybersecurity firm, revealed that a third party illegally accessed a file server located in Japan. This access was achieved through a server belonging to an overseas subsidiary.
Upon discovering the intrusion, Panasonic swiftly implemented enhanced security protocols. These measures included reinforcing access controls originating from international locations, resetting critical passwords, and intensifying server access monitoring.
The company is committed to bolstering its overall security infrastructure to mitigate the risk of future incidents.
Recent History of Cyberattacks
This latest data breach follows a similar incident earlier in the year. Panasonic’s Indian subsidiary was targeted by a ransomware attack, leading to the leakage of 4 gigabytes of sensitive data.
This leaked data included financial records and email addresses, highlighting the growing threat landscape facing the technology sector.
Panasonic is dedicated to protecting its data and the information of its partners and applicants.
