CEOs Support AI and Computer Science Education in K-12

CEOs Advocate for AI and Computer Science in Schools
A coalition of over 250 chief executive officers has voiced its support for integrating artificial intelligence (AI) and computer science into the core curriculum of K-12 education.
This call to action was formalized through an open letter featured in The New York Times on Monday.
Industry Leaders Champion Future Readiness
Prominent figures such as Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft, Josh Silverman, CEO of Etsy, and Dara Khosrowshahi, CEO of Uber, were among the signatories.
These leaders contend that robust education in computer science and AI is vital for maintaining America’s global competitiveness.
Global Trends and the Need for Change
The letter highlights that several nations are already prioritizing these subjects.
- Brazil has made computer science a mandatory subject for all students.
- China, South Korea, and Singapore have similarly implemented mandatory computer science or AI education.
According to the signatories, the United States is currently lagging behind in this crucial area.
The core message emphasizes the importance of fostering a generation equipped to create AI technologies, rather than simply being passive users.
Government Initiatives and Research Funding
This advocacy coincides with the Trump administration’s efforts to develop a new national AI policy.
However, potential reductions in federal funding for research pose a threat to foundational AI development.
Last week, President Trump signed an executive order aimed at promoting AI integration across K-12, higher education, and the workforce.
This initiative seeks to establish collaborations between the private sector and academic institutions.
