oneplus co-founder carl pei raises $7 million for his new venture

Carl Pei, formerly a co-founder at OnePlus and having departed from the company two months prior, has successfully obtained $7 million in funding from a collection of prominent investors for his latest hardware-focused endeavor.
The Swedish technology entrepreneur announced on Wednesday that he had secured $7 million during a seed funding round, drawing support from associates and private investors. These include Tony Fadell (a principal at Future Shape and the creator of the iPod), popular online personality Casey Neistat, Kevin Lin (a co-founder of Twitch), Steve Huffman (the chief executive officer of Reddit), Liam Casey (the founder and chief executive officer of PCH), Paddy Cosgrave (the founder of Web Summit), Josh Buckley (the chief executive officer of Product Hunt), and a team of current and former employees from Stockholm-based Truecaller: Kim Fai Kok, Nick Dahl, and Zakaria Hersi.
Pei has not yet disclosed the specifics of this new business, including its name, but indicated he will share further details in the coming year. According to a source with knowledge of the situation, as reported by TechCrunch, the initial focus of the venture will be on hardware related to audio. Pei stated his intention to utilize the newly acquired funds to establish a London office, recruit personnel, and support research and development efforts.
“I am incredibly thankful and enthusiastic to have the backing of such esteemed individuals as we work towards our next creation,” Carl Pei commented in an official statement. “We are committed to rapidly advancing our vision and eagerly anticipate the market’s response.”
Pei was widely recognized as the public representative for the Chinese smartphone manufacturer OnePlus for several years. His announcement in October regarding his departure from the company came as a surprise to many. He was a key figure in the design of the OnePlus smartphone series, as well as the company’s overall branding and marketing strategies.
Android Central previously reported that Pei, age 31, left the company due to an “internal power struggle” with Pete Lau, the other co-founder of OnePlus. Lau, age 45, also assumed the role of SVP at Oppo. OnePlus, Realme, Oppo, and Vivo are all owned by BBK Group. OnePlus has consistently refrained from addressing inquiries regarding its ownership structure. OnePlus did not provide a response when contacted for comment in October.
“Carl has dedicated the last ten years to developing products enjoyed by millions. He possesses a deep understanding of consumer preferences, and I am excited to see what he unveils next,” stated Josh Buckley, chief executive officer of Product Hunt, in a statement.
