OnePlus Enters Premium Earbud Market with Buds Pro

Having developed several generations of wireless earbuds, OnePlus is now directly challenging the AirPods Pro and other high-end competitors. Alongside the launch of its Nord 2 smartphone, the company has officially unveiled the OnePlus Buds Pro.

Adaptive Noise Cancellation and Audio Quality

A key feature of the Buds Pro is their adaptive noise cancellation. This system utilizes three integrated microphones to reduce surrounding noise by up to 40 dBs. The company asserts that this technology surpasses traditional active noise cancelling, which typically provides a fixed level of noise reduction.

These earbuds are equipped with a pair of 11mm dynamic drivers and offer support for Dolby Atmos for an immersive audio experience.

Battery Life and Charging

The OnePlus Buds Pro deliver up to 10 hours of playback on a single charge (without noise cancellation enabled). Combined with the charging case, total battery life extends to 38 hours.

The case supports wireless charging via compatible Qi charging pads. Furthermore, a quick 10-minute charge provides 10 hours of listening time.

Pricing and Competition

Priced at $150, the OnePlus Buds Pro are $100 more affordable than the AirPods Pro. However, the price point most closely rivals the $99 Nothing Ear (1), which is currently anticipated.

OnePlus has, however, launched its product a week before its former subsidiary, Nothing.

The Buds Pro also compete with the recently released Beats Studio Buds, Google Pixel Buds, and Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro, positioning them within the mid-range of the premium earbud market.

Design and Previous Models

The design of the OnePlus Buds Pro shares similarities with the AirPods Pro, featuring a metallic stem extending from the black or white earbuds.

The company’s initial foray into fully wireless earbuds, the OnePlus Buds, received a lukewarm reception. These were competitively priced at $70, aligning with the original Nord phone’s release.

The OnePlus Buds Pro will be available for purchase in the U.S. and Canada starting September 1.
