NuraBuds: A Closer Look at Nura's New Offering

Despite some minor issues with Bluetooth connectivity and microphone quality, the NuraTrue earbuds were well-received. Supporting smaller companies innovating against larger tech corporations is also a priority, particularly when they introduce novel approaches.

Nura distinguishes itself through personalized sound profiles, which can significantly improve audio quality. The company has also been a strong advocate for a hardware-as-a-service subscription model.

The Hardware-as-a-Service Approach

This model, where an initial payment is followed by a monthly rental fee, hasn't gained widespread acceptance. However, Nura is now expanding this offering to include its NuraBuds.

It’s important not to confuse the fully wireless NuraBuds with the NuraTrue. While the devices share similarities, the NuraBuds are a more affordable and compact option, achieved by streamlining features to reduce costs. This approach mirrors that of Google’s Pixel Buds A.

Key Differences Between NuraBuds and NuraTrue

The reduced size, which also eliminates the distinctive outer circle design, results in a shorter battery life. The earbuds now provide four hours of playback, compared to six hours in the NuraTrue, with an additional 10 hours available through the charging case.

A significant difference is that the NuraBuds do not support Nura’s proprietary hearing test. Users must import a sound profile from another Nura device via the app.

This means users will miss out on the benefit of a custom-tailored audio experience unless they have previously owned or subscribed to another set of Nura headphones and saved their profile.

Nuranow Subscription Details

The NuraBuds are available through the Nuranow program for $5 per month, along with a one-time $19 setup fee. The Nuraphones over-ear headphones are also offered through the program at $10 monthly (plus a $49 upfront cost).

Additionally, the NuraLoop earbuds can be rented for $8 a month, requiring a $29 initial payment.
