The mobile news source NowThis is unveiling an alternative approach for the upcoming presidential election next week – they are collaborating with the meditation application Calm to produce a live broadcast intended to provide stress relief for those feeling overwhelmed by election news.

While NowThis will continue to report on the election, this particular live stream (featuring relaxation techniques like guided breathing and calming visuals of natural landscapes from across the country) is designed to give viewers a temporary break from constantly monitoring the results.

The broadcast will begin at 5:30 p.m. Eastern Time on Election Day and will be accessible on NowThis’ Facebook and YouTube channels, continuing through the next day.

According to a statement from NowThis Chief Content Officer Tina Exarhos, “NowThis consistently delivers significant news to a younger audience with a positive and hopeful perspective. Recognizing the exceptionally high stress levels many voters are experiencing during this election, we are pleased to team up with Calm to offer a contrasting program alongside our standard coverage, providing a moment of calm as Election Day concludes.”

NowThis operates as a component of Group Nine Media, a company that also encompasses Thrillist, The Dodo, and Seeker.

Calm is also reportedly seeking additional investment to capitalize on the increasing popularity of meditation and mindfulness applications, and has already expanded its reach beyond apps with a program featuring well-known personalities on HBO Max.
