Nothing Phone (3) to Launch in the U.S. via Direct Sales and Amazon

Nothing, the smartphone manufacturer, is preparing to expand its reach into the United States market with its upcoming flagship device, the Nothing Phone (3). This launch will be facilitated through both the company’s official website and Amazon, as exclusively reported by TechCrunch.

Expanding U.S. Availability

Since its establishment in 2020, Nothing has released a total of eight phone models. However, until now, only the Phone (2) has been broadly available for purchase in the U.S.

Previously, access to Nothing phones in the U.S. was limited to a beta program requiring sign-ups. Furthermore, initial sales lacked comprehensive after-sales support, although a 14-day full refund policy was in place for returns.

A Strategic Move for Growth

“We’ve consistently emphasized our commitment to long-term growth, and we are now positioned to advance further within the U.S. market,” stated Carl Pei, CEO and co-founder of OnePlus, in an interview with TechCrunch. “The Phone (3) represents more than just a product launch; it signifies our company’s evolution.”

Pei highlighted the dominance of two major players in the U.S. smartphone landscape, while also noting a considerable consumer desire for alternative options.

Targeting Switchers and North American Expansion

Nothing has observed encouraging conversion rates among users transitioning to its products. With the Phone (3), the company intends to capitalize on this trend with a more concentrated approach.

“This is the ideal product, and the opportune moment, to begin scaling our operations in North America,” Pei explained.

Design as a Differentiator

Pei believes that Nothing’s distinctive smartphone design will appeal to consumers seeking alternatives to established brands like Apple, Samsung, and Google.

Improved Carrier Compatibility

The Phone (3) will offer support for both AT&T and T-Mobile networks, featuring multi-band compatibility for both 4G and 5G. This represents a significant improvement over the limited carrier support found in previous models, including the Phone (2a), Phone (2a) Plus, and CMF Phone 1.

Canadian Expansion Through Best Buy

In Canada, Nothing is forging a partnership with Best Buy to distribute its new flagship phone, alongside the Headphone (1) over-ear headphone model, through retail channels for the first time.

Phone (3) Features and Pricing

A March video released by Pei indicated that the Phone (3) will incorporate premium materials, substantial performance enhancements, and a significantly improved software experience.

The device is anticipated to be priced around £800, which equates to approximately $1,000 in the U.S. This pricing strategy positions the Phone (3) as a direct competitor to the iPhone 16 Pro and the Samsung Galaxy S25+.

Market Position and Challenges

According to Counterpoint Research, Nothing’s global shipments for 2024 reached the “low-single-digit millions,” with India serving as its largest market.

Maurice Klaehne, a senior research analyst at Counterpoint Research, noted that Google and Motorola have gained some traction in the U.S. premium device market, which remains largely controlled by Samsung and Apple. He also pointed out that OnePlus, Pei’s previous venture, experiences relatively low shipment volumes in the U.S., suggesting that Nothing faces a challenging path to success in North America.

Funding and Future Outlook

To date, Nothing has secured over $250 million in funding through multiple investment rounds.
