Animal Crossing: New Horizons Version 2.0 Update Released Early

Nintendo Switch owners can now download the substantial update for “Animal Crossing: New Horizons”. The update, bringing the game to version 2.0, arrived unexpectedly a day ahead of its planned release.

Last month, Nintendo detailed the most significant update yet for their popular 2020 Switch title, originally scheduled for November 5th. While the “Happy Home Paradise” downloadable content (DLC) isn’t currently available, the free patch introduces a wealth of new content.

New Features and Improvements

The update incorporates several exciting additions. These include the Roost café, a new system for farming and cooking DIY recipes, and boat trips with Kapp’n to discover unique islands.

Players can also engage in gyroid hunting, receive makeovers and shop with Harriet on Harv’s Island, and much more.

Beyond new content, the update delivers quality-of-life enhancements. These include expanded home storage and the ability to construct storage sheds around your island, reducing frequent trips to your home.

Increased capacity for ramps and bridges is also included, alongside new camera modes and a motion-controlled stretching exercise to enjoy with villagers.

Island Ordinances and Kapp’n’s Boat Tours

Following the update installation, Isabelle will provide information regarding island ordinances and boat tours with Kapp’n during her daily announcements.

Island ordinances allow players to influence villager activity patterns, adjusting the time of day they are most active. This feature is beneficial for players with limited gaming windows.

However, Kapp’n’s boat tours are limited to one purchase per day using Nook Miles. This prevents continuous island hopping from the airport, potentially encouraging more balanced gameplay.

Future Updates and DLC

Although version 2.0 represents the final major free update for “Animal Crossing: New Horizons”, the “Happy Home Paradise” DLC remains on track for its Friday release.

The DLC is available for $24.99. Alternatively, it’s included with the Nintendo Switch Online+ expansion pack.

This new online membership, announced in September and launched last week, also grants access to a selection of Nintendo 64 and SEGA games.
