AWS Marketplace Now Supports Containerized Apps On-Premise and in the Cloud

AWS Marketplace for Containers Anywhere: Simplifying Container Deployment
The increasing adoption of containers has led developers to utilize them extensively for software delivery. However, the deployment process can be complex, particularly when operating in diverse environments – whether on-premises or within the cloud.
To address these challenges, Amazon Web Services (AWS) unveiled AWS Marketplace for Containers Anywhere during the recent AWS re:Invent event in Las Vegas.
Expanding Container Accessibility
While the product name is straightforward, it accurately reflects its functionality. Developers can now list their containerized applications on the marketplace, enabling users to deploy them across various infrastructures.
The core concept revolves around leveraging the AWS Marketplace as a central hub for discovering containerized applications. Users can then easily subscribe to these applications and deploy them to any Kubernetes cluster, regardless of its location.
Seamless Deployment Across Environments
According to AWS’s Channy Yun, this new feature allows for the deployment of third-party Kubernetes applications to on-premises environments utilizing Amazon EKS Anywhere.
It also extends to customer-managed Kubernetes clusters, whether hosted on-premises or within Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2). This provides a unified catalog for locating container images, irrespective of the intended deployment destination.
Benefits of Utilizing the Marketplace
Yun highlights several advantages for users, including the established benefits of the AWS Marketplace. These include adaptable billing models, assurance of security scans performed on applications, and streamlined administration processes.
A significant benefit is the flexible licensing model, which permits deployment across different environments without necessitating license modifications.
License Portability and Migration to AWS
Once subscribed to an application through this feature, users can seamlessly migrate their Kubernetes applications to AWS. This is achieved by deploying the independent software vendor (ISV) provided Helm charts onto their Kubernetes clusters on AWS, all without altering existing licenses.
Availability
AWS Marketplace for Containers Anywhere is currently available in all AWS regions that support the AWS Marketplace.
This launch aims to simplify the container deployment lifecycle and broaden the reach of containerized applications.
