Netflix Announces Subscription Price Increases in US and Canada

Netflix has implemented another round of price adjustments for its subscription plans in both the United States and Canada.

These updated prices are effective immediately for all new subscribers. Current Netflix members will be informed of the changes via email notification, delivered approximately 30 days prior to the price increase taking effect.

Reasoning Behind the Price Hikes

According to a statement provided to Reuters, Netflix explained the adjustments are necessary to maintain a diverse catalog of high-quality entertainment. They stated, “We’re updating our prices so that we can continue to offer a wide variety of quality entertainment options.”

New Subscription Pricing

The revised pricing structure is as follows:

Basic (1 stream, 480p): $9.99 (previously $8.99)
Standard (2 streams, 1080p): $15.49 (previously $13.99)
Premium (4 streams, 4K): $19.99 (previously $17.99)

For Canadian subscribers, the Standard plan now costs $16.49, and the Premium plan is priced at $20.99. The Basic plan remains at $9.99.

Historical Price Increases

Netflix last increased prices in 2020, raising the Standard plan from $13 to $14. Prior to that, a price adjustment occurred in 2019, increasing the Standard plan from $11 to $13.

It is speculated that the company timed this increase to avoid appearing to raise prices in three consecutive years.
