TeraCopy - Fast File Transfer & Copy

Accelerating File Transfers on Windows
Recently, after acquiring a new computer, I partitioned the 500 GB hard drive into three separate volumes – one dedicated to the operating system and applications, and two others for general file storage. A consideration I initially overlooked was the time required to transfer substantial files between these drives.
The native Windows Explorer utility can prove somewhat slow and inefficient when handling the copying or relocation of large files across different drives.
Discovering TeraCopy
Faced with this performance bottleneck, I turned to online resources for a solution. My objective was to locate a freeware application capable of significantly accelerating file transfers between Windows drives, surpassing the capabilities of Windows Explorer.
My search led me to TeraCopy, a program that proved to be an excellent fit.
TeraCopy seamlessly integrates into the Windows Explorer right-click context menu, offering a streamlined user experience. The program is available for free for personal use.
To utilize TeraCopy, simply right-click on the file you wish to move or copy – for example, transferring a file from drive J to drive K – and select the TeraCopy option from the menu.

This action launches the TeraCopy interface, with the selected file already queued for transfer.

Specify whether you want to "copy to" or "move to", designate the destination folder on your computer (in this instance, drive K), and TeraCopy will initiate the file transfer process.
Key Features of TeraCopy
TeraCopy offers several features that enhance its utility and make it a valuable addition to any Windows system:
1.
-
When transferring numerous files, you have the ability to pause the process if your computer requires resources for a more pressing task. Resumption of the transfer is easily accomplished once the primary task is complete – a feature unavailable in Windows Explorer.
2. Should an error occur during the transfer of a specific file, TeraCopy will bypass that file and continue processing the remaining files. In contrast, Windows Explorer typically halts the entire transfer upon encountering an error. TeraCopy also provides a report of any files that failed to transfer, allowing for troubleshooting and re-attempts.
TeraCopy’s benefits extend beyond internal drive transfers. It is also highly effective when moving files between your computer and external storage devices, such as USB flash drives. I tested TeraCopy with my USB drive and was able to copy the entire contents of my Portable Apps folder in just 2 minutes. The same operation using Windows Explorer previously required approximately 30 minutes!
In conclusion, TeraCopy is a highly recommended tool for anyone frequently transferring files on a Windows system.
