Monad Raises $17M to Tackle Cybersecurity Big Data

Monad Emerges from Stealth with $17 Million Series A Funding

Monad, a cloud security startup specializing in data extraction and connection from diverse security tools, has officially launched following a successful stealth period. The company secured $17 million in Series A funding, with Index Ventures leading the investment round.

Addressing the Cybersecurity Data Challenge

The foundation of Monad rests on the understanding that modern enterprise cybersecurity is increasingly a complex data management issue. Organizations struggle to effectively analyze the vast quantities of information fragmented across isolated logs and databases.

Once security data is extracted from existing tools, Monad’s Security Data Platform facilitates its centralization within a preferred data warehouse. This platform normalizes and enriches the data, providing security teams with actionable insights for robust system and data protection.

Streamlining Security Data Access

“At its core, security represents a significant big data problem,” explained Christian Almenar, CEO and co-founder of Monad. “Many organizations find it difficult to provide their security data in the efficient format required by DevOps and cloud engineering teams.

This hinders their ability to rapidly develop applications while simultaneously tackling critical security and compliance requirements. Monad was created to resolve this data accessibility issue, freeing customer security data from isolated tools and making it available through any chosen data warehouse.”

Funding and Future Development

This Series A round, bolstered by participation from Sequoia Capital, increases Monad’s total funding to $19 million. This investment follows a Sequoia-led seed round completed twelve months prior.

The newly acquired funds will be strategically allocated to expand Monad’s development initiatives for its innovative security data cloud platform.

Founding Team Expertise

Monad was established in May 2020 by seasoned security professionals Christian Almenar and Jacolon Walker. Almenar previously co-founded Intrinsic, a serverless security startup later acquired by VMware in 2019.

Walker brings extensive experience as a former CISO and security engineer, having served at companies including OpenDoor, Collective Health, and Palantir.
