mmhmm Summer Update: New Video Conferencing Features

mmhmm Announces New Features for Enhanced Video Communication
The communications platform, mmhmm, created by Phil Libin and the All Turtles team, is receiving a significant update with a range of new capabilities. Libin believes that modern video communication has the potential to surpass the quality of in-person interactions.
Introducing mmhmm Chunky
The core of this update is mmhmm Chunky, a feature designed to allow presenters to divide their content into distinct “chunks.” These chunks function similarly to slides in a traditional presentation, each receiving individual refinement and editing.
With Chunky, mmhmm users gain the ability to segment their presentations, ensuring each piece of information is presented with precision.
Seamless Switching Between Live and Pre-recorded Content
Presenters can now effortlessly transition between live delivery and pre-recorded segments within a single presentation. For example, a salesperson could switch to a pre-recorded pricing explanation during a pitch, or a teacher could integrate a pre-recorded lesson segment into their live class.
Enhanced Audience Experience
mmhmm’s improvements extend to the audience experience as well. Viewers can navigate between chunks and slides to review material, or utilize a sped-up playback mode for faster consumption.
Presenters can also monitor audience engagement, observing where viewers are within the presentation both during and after the live event.
Optimizing Time and Efficiency
Libin emphasizes that this feature is fundamentally about maximizing the value of time. He notes that his team has moved away from synchronous meetings in favor of asynchronous presentations.
“We now rely on quick presentations that can be viewed at accelerated speeds, as people can process information faster than it can be spoken,” Libin stated. “This allows synchronous communication to be reserved for crucial discussions.”
New Video Player and Expanded Compatibility
mmhmm has developed its own dedicated video player, enabling users to stream their presentations to any desired website. The platform will continue to integrate seamlessly with existing tools like Zoom and Google Meet.
Copilot 2.0: Collaborative Presentation Control
The updated Copilot feature, now in version 2.0, allows two individuals to engage in a side-by-side video chat within any chosen virtual environment.
This is particularly well-suited for one-on-one conversations or fireside chats with a larger audience, as demonstrated by Libin in a presentation with a friend.
Organization and Library Features
Alongside these core features, mmhmm is introducing improvements to content organization.
- A Presentation Library will allow users to save and organize their best presentation takes.
- Organizations can utilize Loaf, a centralized repository for company-wide video and presentation storage.
- Presets have been revamped for easier application to multiple slides and quicker switching.
Future Developments
mmhmm is actively working on expanding platform availability to iOS and Android, and plans to exit beta on Windows.
While not all features will be available immediately, Libin indicated a phased rollout over the coming weeks. He will be presenting a detailed overview of the new features in a keynote address at 10 a.m. PT/1 p.m. ET.
