Mitsubishi EV Deal: Sourcing from Foxconn for Australia & New Zealand

Mitsubishi Motors and Foxconn Explore EV Partnership
Mitsubishi Motors is currently engaged in discussions with the electric vehicle arm of Foxconn, a company based in Taiwan. The potential collaboration centers around securing an OEM electric car model.
This vehicle is intended for distribution in both Australia and New Zealand, with a planned launch timeframe in the second half of 2026.
Memorandum of Understanding Signed
On Wednesday, Mitsubishi announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Foxtron Vehicle Technologies. This MOU signifies a commitment to the development of a new electric vehicle.
Further negotiations are scheduled to finalize a definitive agreement between the two companies.
Foxtron's Background
Foxtron is a joint venture established between Foxconn and Yulon Motor Co., a Taiwanese automotive manufacturer.
Notably, Yulon Motor Co. currently handles assembly and production for vehicles belonging to the Nissan brand.
Alliance Synergies with Renault and Nissan
Mitsubishi is also leveraging its existing alliance with Renault and Nissan to expand its electric vehicle offerings in North America.
A rebadged version of the Nissan Leaf electric car will be offered by Mitsubishi in North America, starting in the latter half of 2026.
Reciprocal Model Sharing
Conversely, Nissan will be retailing a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle manufactured by Mitsubishi in North America, beginning next year.
Expansion into European Markets
Mitsubishi also intends to market rebranded electric vehicle models produced by Renault within the European market.
