A Direct Challenge to Chromebooks

The company’s focus is demonstrably on competing with Google’s widely adopted Chromebooks. Furthermore, Microsoft’s collaborative partners appear to be aligning their strategies accordingly.

Decoding "SE": A Curious Initialism

It’s noteworthy that “SE” in Windows 11 SE doesn’t represent a specific phrase, unlike past iterations such as Windows 98 SE or the iPhone SE. Microsoft clarified that the designation serves to distinguish this edition from others like Home and Pro.

The Surface Laptop SE: A Reference Design

The Surface Laptop SE can be considered the foundational model, or benchmark, for Microsoft’s vision in this sector. It’s a $250 laptop designed to provide essential functionality, with a particular emphasis on remote learning and simplified maintenance.

Key Specifications

While not boasting high-end specifications, the device is tailored for homework and remote educational activities. Here’s a breakdown of the core components:

• Intel Celeron N4020 or N4120 series processors with integrated graphics
• 4 or 8 GB of RAM for multitasking
• 64 or 128 GB of eMMC storage (non-expandable)
