Microsoft Expands Accessory Lineup with Focus on Teams Integration

Alongside the unveiling of the new Surface Laptop, Microsoft announced a comprehensive range of new accessories today. This collection encompasses both incremental updates to existing products and the introduction of entirely novel devices.

A central theme unites these new offerings: seamless integration with Microsoft Teams. As a software-centric company, Microsoft consistently leverages its software expertise to enhance its hardware products.

Surface Headphones 2+ for Business

Microsoft is introducing a refined version of its Surface Headphones, specifically the Headphones 2+ for Business. The primary enhancement is the inclusion of dedicated on-ear controls for Teams functionality.

Further improvements to these well-regarded over-ear headphones are relatively minor, reflected in the “2+” designation. These include enhanced remote call quality. The Headphones 2+ are priced at $299, a premium over the original Headphone 2’s $250 price point, and will become available later this month.

Modern Accessory Suite

A series of new products are being released under the “Modern” line, which already includes the Modern Mouse. Joining this suite are the Microsoft Modern USB and Wireless Headsets.

These headsets feature a dedicated button for quickly initiating Teams calls on Microsoft’s platform. They are scheduled to ship in June, with prices set at $50 for the USB version and $100 for the Wireless model.

Modern Webcam

Microsoft is also adding a 1080p webcam to its portfolio. The Modern Webcam boasts a 78-degree field of view and supports HDR video capture.

A built-in privacy shutter is included, alongside software adjustments for features like automatic white balance and facial retouching. Naturally, the webcam is Teams certified. Its availability is slated for June, priced at $70.

Modern USB-C Speaker

Perhaps the most unique addition to the lineup is the Microsoft Modern USB-C Speaker. With the diminished role of Cortana, Teams once again serves as the core driver for this product.

This desktop speaker incorporates dual microphones, optimized for Teams calls and casual music playback. It will also be released in June, carrying a price tag of $100.
