Meticulous Unveils Robotic Lever Espresso Machine at CES 2025

At this week’s CES 2025 in Las Vegas, Meticulous is demonstrating its innovative smart espresso maker. This device is being touted as the world’s first robotic lever espresso machine.

The project has already garnered significant financial backing, securing nearly $5 million through a Kickstarter campaign and an additional $1.6 million via Indiegogo. Initial shipments of the espresso machines are scheduled for March.

Automated Espresso Brewing with Precision Control

The Meticulous Espresso machine utilizes a digital motor and a suite of high-precision sensors to automate the espresso-making process. This allows both seasoned baristas and novice coffee lovers to exert precise control over each stage of brewing.

According to Carlos Pendas, CEO of Meticulous, successful espresso preparation hinges on two key elements: heat and pressure. Traditional machines rely on boilers and valves to achieve these, but the fundamental mechanics have remained largely unchanged for decades.

A New Approach to Espresso Technology

Meticulous has taken a ground-up design approach, integrating modern technology into its espresso machine. While still generating both heat and pressure, the machine employs digital actuators, sensors, and sophisticated software to manage these processes.

Ten digital sensors continuously monitor critical parameters, including water temperature, pressure levels, flow rate, and the weight of the brewed liquid. This real-time data enables the machine to make adjustments, mirroring the actions of a skilled barista.

Integrated Weighing and Flow Control

The machine incorporates an integrated scale for directly weighing coffee grounds. During brewing, this scale collaborates with a flow sensor to precisely measure the water passing through the grounds.

This allows for accurate adjustment of the flow rate and ensures the brew stops at the optimal ratio.

Temperature Stability and Customizable Profiles

Six dedicated sensors within the machine are focused on maintaining consistent water temperature. The heating coil rapidly brings the water to the ideal temperature – approximately one minute – and sustains it throughout the extraction process.

Users can select from a range of pre-programmed, classic espresso profiles or download custom profiles created by coffee experts worldwide.

The espresso machine is currently available for pre-order at a price of $1,350.

Introducing the Meticulous Milk Steamer

In addition to the espresso machine, Meticulous also announced the Meticulous Milk steamer. This device features a coil designed to heat a small amount of water almost instantaneously.

Equipped with sensors, the steamer automates the milk steaming process, allowing users to select their desired temperature and texture.

The Meticulous Milk is available for pre-order at $250.
