Meta announced on Tuesday that its Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses will become available for purchase in India beginning May 19th. The starting price for these innovative glasses is ₹29,990, which is equivalent to approximately $353.
Availability and Pre-Orders
Currently, customers can place pre-orders for the smart glasses directly through the official Ray-Ban website. At the time of launch, they will also be available for purchase in physical Ray-Ban retail locations.
Meta AI Integration
The version of the smart glasses released in India will feature support for Meta AI. This integration allows users to receive answers to questions regarding their surroundings.
Furthermore, Meta AI facilitates real-time translation of both audio and video content. Users can also utilize the glasses to send messages through their smartphones and initiate phone calls.
Language Support
The smart glasses presently offer live translation capabilities for English, French, Italian, and Spanish. Importantly, this functionality remains accessible even without an internet connection.
It is worth noting that, as of now, support for Indian languages has not yet been implemented.
Music Streaming Compatibility
Meta has confirmed that the glasses will be compatible with popular music streaming services in India. These include Spotify, Amazon Music, Shazam, and Apple Music, allowing users to connect and enjoy their favorite tunes.
Sales Figures to Date
Since their initial release in 2023, the company reports having sold approximately 2 million pairs of these smart glasses globally.
This demonstrates a significant level of consumer interest in the emerging smart eyewear market.
