Taiwan Excellence Awards 2024: Meet the 7 Winners | Showstoppers

Taiwan is widely recognized as a leading technology center, serving as the headquarters for prominent companies such as Foxconn, Pegatron, TSMC, Acer, and Asus. While Taiwan’s technology sector is characterized by these well-known, established businesses, it also fosters a rapidly expanding startup ecosystem. Prior to the official commencement of CES, the Taiwan Excellence awards were announced by the nonprofit trade promotion organization, the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), in collaboration with ShowStoppers, offering a preview of the innovations emerging from its startup community. Seven startups were honored with awards, and an additional eleven companies also participated in the presentations, representing a diverse spectrum of industries, from fitness and wellness to industrial oversight.

Next week at CES, a greater number of startups will demonstrate their technologies at the Taiwan Pavilion, an event organized by Taiwan Tech Arena.

The seven Taiwan Excellence Award recipients are:

Advantech’s LoRaWAN solutions are engineered for controlling applications over extensive distances and have found application in a variety of settings, including flood monitoring, patient care in hospitals, and infrastructure management for transportation. Among its newest offerings are the WISE-6610, a gateway capable of connecting up to 500 sensors and transmitting data to cloud platforms via 3G/LTE or wired Ethernet, and the WISE-2410, a vibration sensor designed to monitor motor-driven machinery and detect potential problems, enabling manufacturers to schedule maintenance proactively and avoid costly equipment failures.

CyberLink is the creator of FaceMe, a facial recognition engine powered by machine learning, utilized in AIoT applications such as security systems, smart retail solutions, and surveillance technologies. In response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, CyberLink has introduced FaceMe Health, which can accurately identify faces even when masks are worn, and issue alerts if individuals are not wearing masks or exhibit elevated temperatures, assisting in pandemic control efforts in locations like hospitals, airports, stores, and factories.

Dyaco’s SOLE Fitness line of exercise equipment features the new SOLE CC81 Cardio Climber, which integrates the functionality of steppers and climbers into a single machine. The SOLE CC81 is designed with ergonomics in mind, allowing users to achieve high-intensity cardiovascular workouts while minimizing stress on their joints.

Green Jacket Sports is presenting its Golface smart system, which enables golf courses to monitor and gather real-time data on their operations, while also allowing golfers to track their individual performance. The system’s additional capabilities include aerial video footage and live scoring features.

Maktar produces Qubii, a smartphone backup device designed as a compact cube. Qubii automatically backs up phone data during charging and does not require an internet or Wi-Fi connection. Users simply insert a microSD card into Qubii and connect it to their smartphone using their standard power adapters or chargers. With each charging cycle, Qubii creates a backup of photos, videos, and contacts, and includes a patented SD card lock feature for data protection.

Image Credits: MioMiTAC Digital Technology’s Mio dashcam series delivers clear video quality, even in low-light conditions such as parking areas. The latest Mio dashcam, the MiVue 798, utilizes Sony’s low-light STARVISTM sensor and an all-glass lens to produce wide-angle videos with a resolution of up to 2.8K. The MiVue 798 also incorporates embedded WiFi connectivity for video backups and online sharing via the MiVue Pro App, along with GPS tracking, a patented smart alert system providing fixed-distance and speed limit warnings, and a driver assistance system that alerts drivers to lane departures, fatigue, and potential forward collisions.

Winmate will showcase its M133WK Ultra Rugged Tablet PC, engineered for vehicle diagnostics. Powered by an 8th-gen Intel Core i5-8265U Whiskey Lake processor, it delivers high performance with low power consumption, and features a 1920 X 1080 PCAP touchscreen that remains visible even in direct sunlight.

ATrack’s AK11 Fleet Hub is a 4G LTE device designed for the real-time management of vehicle fleets across various industries.

ELECLEAN 360 employs what it describes as the “world’s first nano-catalysis electrochemical technology” to convert water into hydrogen peroxide and hydroxyl radicals for cleaning and disinfection purposes.

In Win Development is introducing the SR Pro CPU Cooler, which utilizes patented twin-turbine pumps operating in parallel to optimize water flow and ensure efficient thermal performance. It is equipped with high-airflow AJF120 fans to accelerate PC cooling.

Innolux manufactures a comprehensive range of LCD panels for televisions, monitors, notebooks, industrial, medical, mobile, and other applications.

Planet Technology is developing a secure network, PLANET Powerful Enterprise VPN Cybersecurity and Firewall Solutions, designed for the “post-COVID-19 era.”

Rice Air produces LUFT Cube, a compact, filterless nanotech personal air purifier.

Systems & Technology Corp. (Systech)’s fleet management platform leverages intelligent telematics to enable organizations to track vehicle locations and manage their fleets more effectively.

Tokuyu Biotech creates smart massage chairs and health-related products that connect to apps and sensor technologies.

Winnoz is the creator of Haiim, a portable, vacuum-assisted device for collecting blood samples from fingertips.

WiseChip develops transparent OLEDs with touch functionality for use in control panels for home appliances, automotive applications, transportation systems (such as passenger information displays), and wearable devices.

Yztek‘s E+ Autoff is an IoT device designed to prevent users from forgetting to turn off their stoves. In addition to automatic shut-off, it also offers cooking time adjustment and energy-saving features.
