Windows 8.1 Start Button to All Apps - Easy Modification

Customizing the Windows 8.1 Start Experience

Windows 8.1 introduces the Start Screen as a primary method for launching applications. However, users who prefer a traditional application list can easily revert to this view.

Adjusting this preference is accomplished through the Taskbar Properties settings. Access to these settings can be gained in a couple of ways.

Accessing Taskbar Properties

You can either right-click directly on the Taskbar and select "Properties" from the context menu. Alternatively, utilize Windows 8's integrated search functionality to locate the settings.

Both methods will lead you to the necessary configuration screen.

Once the Taskbar Properties window is open, locate and select the option labeled "Show the Apps view automatically when I go to Start".

Additional Settings for a Smoother Experience

Consider also enabling the option "When I sign in or close all apps on a screen, go to the desktop instead of Start".

This prevents the all apps view from automatically loading upon system startup, which some users may find undesirable.

The setting immediately below this one, "Search everywhere instead of just my apps when I search from the Apps view", offers further customization.

Disabling this option will transform the Start Screen into a more conventional Start Menu-like experience.

By adjusting these settings, you can tailor the Windows 8.1 Start experience to better suit your individual preferences and workflow.
