Making the Command Prompt Accessible Without Shift Key
Previously, we detailed a method for launching a command prompt by simultaneously pressing the Shift key and right-clicking a folder or the desktop. However, a streamlined approach exists to display this option consistently, eliminating the need to hold down the Shift key.
This can be achieved through a straightforward modification to the Windows Registry. Users have the choice of implementing this change manually or utilizing pre-configured registry hack files for ease of use.
Manual Registry Hack Implementation
Initiate the Registry Editor, regedit.exe, via the Start menu search or the Run dialog box. Navigate to the following key to integrate the right-click menu option for drive icons:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Drive\shell\cmd
On the right pane, rename the "Extended" key to a different identifier, such as "Extended-Orig". Deleting the value is also possible, but renaming allows for a quick reversal of the modification if desired.
To extend this functionality to the folder context menu, navigate to this key:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell\cmd
Repeat the renaming process for the "Extended" key within this location. The alterations should take effect immediately.
Utilizing a Downloadable Registry Hack
An alternative method involves downloading, extracting, and double-clicking the EnableCommandPromptHereAlways.reg file. This action automatically inputs the necessary information into the registry.
A corresponding file is also provided to revert the changes, should you wish to restore the original functionality.
Download EnableCommandPromptHereAlways Registry Hack to simplify the process.
Important Note: Modifying the registry can have unintended consequences if not performed correctly. It is recommended to back up your registry before making any changes.
