Free Uber & Lyft Rides for COVID-19 Vaccines

Free Rides to COVID-19 Vaccination Sites Now Available from Uber and Lyft
Uber and Lyft have begun providing complimentary rides for individuals traveling to receive a COVID-19 vaccine. This initiative follows a commitment made to the White House two weeks prior, establishing an agreement to facilitate vaccine access.
Program Duration and Financial Coverage
The availability of these free rides extends through July 4th, aligning with President Joe Biden’s goal of vaccinating 70% of U.S. adults. Both Lyft and Uber have confirmed they will directly cover the expenses associated with these rides.
The White House played a role in the development and implementation of this program. Furthermore, an Uber spokesperson revealed to TechCrunch that the White House provided crucial data regarding the nation’s 80,000+ vaccination locations.
Uber's Ride Offer Details
Uber is offering riders up to four one-way trips, each with a maximum discount of $25. These trips, constituting two round trips, must be scheduled at least three weeks apart, and be utilized between Monday and July 4th, as detailed in an Uber blog post.
To access the program, users simply open the Uber app, select “vaccine,” and then “get your free ride.” Rides are available between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m. Users will be prompted to enter the ZIP code of their vaccination appointment to identify the origin or destination.

Lyft is providing two roundtrip rides, each capped at a $15 value. Any amount exceeding $15, or any driver tip, will be charged to the rider’s preferred payment method. Like Uber, Lyft also requires a three-week interval between the two free rides.
Broader Efforts to Enhance Vaccine Access
This vaccine access program builds upon previous initiatives by both companies. These included offering free or discounted rides to underserved communities and implementing features designed to simplify access to vaccine information and distribution sites.
Uber initially launched a COVID-relief program in March, providing free rides and deliveries. In December, the company pledged an additional 10 million free or discounted rides to support public health efforts.
New Features and Partnerships
In April, Uber announced the rollout of over six new features, including the ability to book vaccine appointments at Walgreens and simultaneously reserve a ride to the vaccination site.
Lyft initiated a universal vaccine access campaign in December. This campaign, a collaborative effort with partners like JPMorgan Chase, Anthem, and United Way, aims to provide 60 million rides to and from vaccination sites for vulnerable populations, including low-income, uninsured, and at-risk communities.
