Lucid Motors Engineer Departure: Chief Engineer Leaves After 10 Years

Lucid Motors Experiences Key Leadership Changes
Eric Bach, the chief engineer at Lucid Motors, is departing from the company following over a decade of service, as officially announced by Lucid.
Having also held the position of Senior Vice President of Product at Lucid Motors, Bach’s tenure with the company began in 2015.
Prior to joining Lucid, he accumulated three years of experience as Director of Engineering at Tesla, collaborating with Peter Rawlinson, Lucid Motors’ former CEO and CTO.
Previous Roles and Departures
Before his time at Tesla, Bach dedicated more than ten years to Volkswagen.
Furthermore, it has come to light that James Hawkins, Lucid’s VP of Engineering, has also left the company after a decade of service.
Lucid Motors refrained from providing specific commentary regarding Hawkins’ departure.
Wider Organizational Restructuring
These departures from Lucid are occurring as part of a broader restructuring unveiled on Wednesday.
Jeri Ford, the Vice President of Quality, is retiring and will be succeeded by Marnie Levergood, who transitions from Scout Motors.
Simultaneously, Emad Dlala, currently the Senior Vice President of Powertrain, is being promoted to oversee all aspects of “Engineering and Digital.”
Dlala had previously received a promotion earlier this year and has been with Lucid since 2015.
Context of Leadership Transition
This executive reshuffling occurs as Lucid operates without a permanent CEO for the ninth consecutive month, following Peter Rawlinson’s unexpected resignation in February.
Since then, former chief operating officer Marc Winterhoff has been serving as interim CEO.
Recent Executive Exits
The loss of Bach and Ford represents the latest in a series of executive departures from Lucid Motors.
Within the past year, the company has seen the departure of its head of investor relations, Senior Vice President of Operations, Managing Director for Europe, and the Vice Presidents of Software Quality and Marketing.
Critical Timing for Lucid
These changes are unfolding at a pivotal moment for Lucid Motors.
The company has recently launched the Gravity, its highly anticipated luxury SUV, which is projected to surpass the sales performance of the Air sedan.
Lucid Motors is also developing a mid-sized vehicle targeted for a price point around $50,000, slated for release in 2026.
Financial Backing
However, the company has indicated a potential need for additional funding before this vehicle’s launch.
On Wednesday, Lucid Motors announced an increase in the cap of a loan agreement with its majority owner, Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund, from $750 million to approximately $2 billion.
This adjustment provides the company with financial stability through 2027.
This report has been updated to include further details regarding departures and the revised loan agreement announced on Wednesday.
