CES 2022 Work From Home Setup - A Showcase

The Pursuit of the Ultimate Work-From-Home Setup

For over ten years, remote work has been my established routine, yet a sense of monotony has begun to creep in. It’s time to revitalize my workspace – utilizing some of the most innovative products showcased at CES 2022, all of which are, in fact, tangible realities.

Display Revolution: Beyond Conventional Monitors

Initially, an upgrade to my current dual 27-inch Dell monitors is essential. Their flat design feels outdated and the surrounding bezels are visually disruptive. I require a display that offers complete immersion within the TechCrunch digital environment.

Samsung presents a compelling solution: the Odyssey Ark, a massive 55-inch curved monitor resembling a snowplow. This next-generation media device is designed for simultaneous streaming, gaming, and video conferencing on a single screen. Observe its impressive presence as demonstrated by YouTuber Tim Schofield:

Ergonomic Excellence: The Razer Enki Pro HyperSense

Should I choose to recline approximately 40 degrees to comfortably view a PDF displayed at 750% magnification (has anyone ever printed a document at that scale? The text clarity is remarkable!), a supportive chair is paramount. Fortunately, Razer offers a solution – quite literally.

The Enki Pro HyperSense is more than just a comfortable chair suitable for dominating Halo: Infinite matches; it functions as a substantial Rumble Pak.

Razer details that, “equipped with 65,000 haptic variations, it delivers tactile feedback ranging from +/- 1 G-Force and can generate up to 1.5 inches of vertical and rearward seat movement.” Consequently, when your Warthog is targeted by a grenade, the impact is felt not only emotionally, but physically as your chair responds. While a full fall may not occur, it’s sure to elicit amusement during a stream, so embrace the experience.

The Art of Input: Keychron’s Customizable Keyboard

To complement my work, a keyboard that matches the caliber of my writing is necessary. The foundation of effective writing lies within the keys themselves, a principle I’ve always upheld. The enduring appeal of classic typewriters among authors is no coincidence – a distinctive aesthetic enhances the creative process. It’s a challenge Neal Stephenson seems to overcome effortlessly.

However, writing preferences vary, and a keyboard should be tailored to individual needs, built from the ground up with a solid base. Keychron’s Q1 provides this foundation: exceptionally robust and customizable with a wide array of keycaps and switches. Why not utilize linear switches for gaming and clicky tactile switches for general typing? While potentially unconventional, the possibilities are endless.

(In truth, I currently have a Q1 for testing and find it to be remarkably well-crafted. A quality mechanical keyboard represents a practical upgrade for any WFH environment.)

Thermal Management: CyberPowerPC’s Kinetic Series

Considering the keyboard, I realized that heat management is crucial for optimal PC performance, while effective insulation is vital for a quiet system. How can both be achieved? Liquid cooling is not an option – it’s simply impractical. Therefore, I’m opting for the most elaborate solution imaginable.

CyberPowerPC’s Kinetic series employs a complex arrangement of folding triangles to regulate airflow across the case, adjusting to changing thermal demands. Why triangles? Why this origami-inspired design instead of conventional valves? Why such an intricate system prone to dust accumulation? Simply because it’s visually striking.

Elevated Presence: LaVitre’s Telepresence Rig

A concern arises: how will colleagues appreciate my impressive equipment during video calls? First, I appreciate your consideration – you are thoughtful. However, I’ve already addressed this issue. Behold my new Zoom setup:

It’s remarkable, isn’t it?

Not only will viewers see my meticulously curated computing space, but also confirmation that I am, indeed, appropriately dressed for work. Perhaps I can adjust the angle… I’ll refine the presentation. This expansive telepresence system originates from French company la Vitre, which promotes it as “an 86-inch experience.” It incorporates numerous other innovative features as well.

Connectivity Perfected: TP-Link’s Archer AXE200 Omni

Finally, I must ensure a consistently low ping during online gaming sessions to avoid accusations of packet loss when dodging incoming fire. TP-Link delivers with its Archer AXE200 Omni robotic router.

No longer will I need to physically adjust the router’s antenna configuration. Wait… do you not do that? That explains why you aren’t ascending the leaderboard, my friend. Signal interference is a serious issue. This device will resolve everything automatically upon release. Following the robocalypse, every hunter-killer unit will undoubtedly be equipped with one of these.

Thus, my comprehensive upgrade is complete. I anticipate receiving all the components in person within the next decade or so.
