Life360 Launches GPS Pet Tracker | Location Technology
Life360 Expands into Pet Technology with New GPS Tracker
Life360, the company known for its family safety application, is now entering the pet technology market. They have announced the release of their Pet GPS, a tracking device specifically designed for dogs and cats.
This new device is intended to be attached to a pet’s collar or harness. It provides owners with real-time location information, offering increased reassurance regarding their animal’s whereabouts.
A Logical Progression for Life360
The introduction of the Pet GPS represents a natural step in the company’s development. This move follows Life360’s 2021 acquisition of Tile, a tracking device manufacturer.
Since acquiring Tile, Life360 has successfully integrated Tile’s item-locating technology into its existing app. This integration already included the option to link a Tile tracker to a pet.
Pricing and Features
The Life360 Pet GPS is offered at a retail price of $49.99. This makes it the most expensive device currently available within Life360’s product range.
However, the device boasts a comprehensive set of features designed to appeal to pet owners. These features justify the higher price point for many users.
Key Capabilities
- Geofencing: Allows owners to establish virtual boundaries and receive alerts when their pet leaves a designated safe zone.
- Escape Alerts: Immediately notifies owners if their pet breaches a geofenced area.
- Pet Finder Network: Provides access to a large community that can assist in locating a lost pet.
When a pet goes missing, owners can issue a lost pet alert through the app. This alert shares crucial details, such as a photo, the pet’s name, breed, and emergency contact information, with nearby app users.
Life360’s network currently consists of over 88 million members. This extensive user base significantly increases the chances of a swift and successful pet recovery.
Advanced Tracking Technology
The Pet GPS utilizes a combination of cellular, GPS, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth technologies. This ensures highly accurate location tracking, with updates occurring every 2 to 4 seconds when the pet is outside of a designated home area.
Additional features include a built-in light, activated via the app, to aid in locating pets in low-light conditions. A chime function also allows owners to remotely call their pets.
Durability and Battery Life
The device is built to withstand the rigors of pet ownership. It carries an IP68 rating, signifying its resistance to water, dust, and even pet bites.
A charger is included, and the device offers a battery life of up to 14 days. A “Bluetooth Reserve Mode” extends this to six months, maintaining locatability even with reduced functionality.
Availability and Subscription Details
The Life360 Pet GPS is available in pink, navy, and black. It can be purchased directly from Life360.com in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.
Full access to all features requires a Life360 Gold ($14.99/month) or Platinum ($24.99/month) subscription.
