Lamborghini's Electrification Plan Begins with New Super Sports Cars

Lamborghini's Transition to Electrification
Lamborghini is set to honor its legacy of combustion engines with the release of two new V12 luxury sports cars this year.
This move precedes a significant shift towards electrification, as the company navigates the balance between its historical gasoline-powered vehicles and a future incorporating hybrid and fully electric models.
Electrification Roadmap Unveiled
The automaker detailed its electrification strategy on Tuesday.
This plan outlines a complete transition to hybrid vehicles across its entire product line by the close of 2024.
Furthermore, Lamborghini intends to introduce a fully electric vehicle in the latter half of the decade.
Significant Investment in Hybrid Technology
A substantial investment of 1.5 billion euros (approximately $1.82 billion) will be allocated over a four-year period to facilitate this transition to hybrid powertrains.
This represents the largest investment in the brand’s history.
The first series production hybrid car is scheduled for launch in 2023, with the remainder of the lineup following suit in 2024.
Focus on Lightweight Materials and Emissions Reduction
The second phase of Lamborghini’s roadmap will concentrate on the development of innovative technologies and the expanded use of lightweight carbon fiber materials.
These advancements are crucial for offsetting the added weight associated with electric components.
The company aims to achieve a 50% reduction in product emissions by 2025.
A Sustainable Future Rooted in Tradition
“Lamborghini’s electrification plan represents a new direction, essential in a rapidly evolving world,” stated Stephan Winkelmann, President and CEO of Lamborghini.
“We aim to contribute by actively minimizing our environmental impact through tangible initiatives.”
He underscored that this plan, beginning with a tribute to the combustion engine, will guide the company towards a more sustainable future while upholding its core brand identity.
Hybrid Precedents: The Sián Models
Lamborghini has already explored hybrid technology with the Sián and Sián Roadster.
Unveiled in 2019 and 2020, respectively, these mid-engine sports cars combine a 6.5-liter naturally aspirated V12 engine with a supercapacitor-based powertrain and a 48-volt electric motor.
Performance and Demand
This combined system generates 819 horsepower.
It enables acceleration from 0 to 62 mph in just 2.8 seconds and a top speed of 218 mph.
Limited to 63 Sián and 19 Sián Roadster models, all units have been sold, indicating a strong market interest in hybridized Lamborghini vehicles.
