Kintaba Introduces Heat Maps for Incident Response Analysis

Kintaba, a startup founded by former Facebook site reliability engineers, is developing a platform designed to oversee incident response throughout its complete process. The company has recently unveiled a new feature called heat maps.

These heat maps offer a novel approach to analyzing incident responses, focusing on the human element and providing insights into organizational behavior during crises.

Understanding Human Involvement in Incident Response

According to John Egan, co-founder and CEO of Kintaba, the company aims to provide organizations of all sizes with a data-driven approach to incident response that emphasizes positive outcomes.

The new heat maps provide management with visibility into the individuals involved in responding to incidents, enabling them to identify key contributors – a capability often lacking in conventional incident response systems.

“This represents a broader perspective on reporting for the entire management team,” Egan stated. “Instead of focusing solely on what occurred during the incident, it facilitates a retrospective analysis over time.”

Egan believes that analyzing these heat maps can reveal valuable trends, such as the timing of incidents and, crucially, the individuals most affected by them.

“This adds an important layer of information to the incident analysis that was previously unavailable,” he explained.

The intention is for this data to be utilized constructively, fostering process improvements and recognizing individuals who proactively report and address incidents, ultimately minimizing their impact on both the company and its customers.

A Shift Towards a Human-Centric Approach

Kintaba views this as a natural progression in incident response, placing greater emphasis on the human and cultural aspects.

“Cultural obstacles are fundamentally people-related, and this data becomes increasingly valuable as incident response is implemented across the entire organization,” Egan noted. “This direction is far more compelling than traditional metrics.”

He suggests the industry is evolving towards healthier and more effective incident response management practices.

Company Background and Funding

Kintaba was launched last year and has successfully secured $2.25 million in funding to date.

The company’s focus remains on providing a comprehensive and insightful platform for managing incident response, with a particular emphasis on understanding and leveraging the human element.
