Keyboard Maker Suspends US Shipments Due to Trump Tariffs

Qwertykeys Halts U.S. Shipments Due to Increased Tariffs
Qwertykeys, a manufacturer of mechanical keyboards, declared on Wednesday a suspension of all product deliveries to the United States. This decision stems from newly imposed tariffs enacted by the Trump administration.
The company, located in Guangdong, attributes the action to a February 1st announcement concerning a 10% tariff on goods imported from China. This served as the primary catalyst for the change in policy.
Impact of New Tariff Regulations
According to Qwertykeys, the recent policy rescinds all prior tariff exemptions. This includes the previous exemption for parcels valued under $800.
Consequently, a 45% tariff is now applied to the full declared value of all keyboards shipped from China to the U.S.
Additional Costs from DHL
Further complicating matters, logistics provider DHL has implemented a “tariff deposit” requirement.
Alongside this deposit, a new package processing fee of $21 has also been introduced.
Wider Implications for Hardware Companies
Qwertykeys is among the initial Chinese hardware companies to completely halt shipments. This is a direct response to the escalating costs associated with conducting business during the second term of the Trump administration.
The new tariffs are disproportionately affecting smaller businesses. These companies typically operate with considerably smaller profit margins.
It is anticipated that Qwertykeys will not be the last company to take such measures.
