Kandji Raises $21M Series A for Apple Device Management

Kandji, a company specializing in mobile device management (MDM), began operations last October. This timing meant the startup was in the process of establishing itself as the pandemic began to unfold earlier this year. However, the demand for solutions that facilitate remote device management has increased significantly in the current climate, and the company today announced a $21 million Series A funding round.

Greycroft spearheaded the investment, with additional participation from Okta Ventures and B Capital Group, alongside existing investor First Round Capital. This latest investment brings the total funding raised by the company to $28.4 million, as reported by Kandji.

Kandji is developing a highly advanced, zero-touch device management platform designed to assist larger organizations in overseeing their Apple device fleets, ensuring adherence to specific regulatory standards. As CEO and co-founder Adam Pettit explained to TechCrunch during the time of their initial seed funding last year:

Monty Gray, Senior Vice President of corporate development at Okta, explained that Okta Ventures’ investment stems from recognizing this approach as a natural complement to the company’s core objectives.

“Kandji’s device management solution simplifies frequently encountered and intricate tasks for Apple IT administrators, and it empowers distributed workforces to become operational rapidly and securely,” he stated.

The company’s strategy appears to be successful. Since its launch last year, Kandji reports acquiring hundreds of new paying customers and expanding its team from an initial 10 employees to 40. Pettit indicated plans to triple the employee count within the next 12 months. He also emphasized the importance of attracting and recruiting a diverse range of applicants as the company grows.

“We are actively exploring methods to broaden our search for candidates beyond traditional sources, and implementing strategies to minimize bias throughout the hiring process. We view this as a crucial aspect of our development, and we are committed to building a truly diverse company in the coming years,” he said.

Over the past year, the platform has already evolved from basic MDM capabilities to include compliance features, with additional enhancements planned as the product continues to mature.

“The product available a year ago is markedly different from what we offer today, and this progress has enabled us to target larger enterprise clients, which is a very positive development for us,” he said.
