John Deere Unveils Autonomous Solutions at CES 2025

John Deere recently presented a range of innovative products at CES 2025, with a particular focus on autonomous technology. Among these is an electric robot lawnmower designed for professional landscaping applications.

Electric Robot Mower for Commercial Use

This new mower is equipped with a 21.4 kWh battery, representing approximately 25% of the capacity found in typical electric passenger vehicles. John Deere anticipates the mower will provide up to 10 hours of operational time on a single charge.

The mower utilizes a sophisticated vision system, incorporating four pairs of stereo cameras strategically positioned to achieve complete 360-degree awareness.

Addressing Labor Challenges with Automation

A key benefit of the electric design is significantly reduced noise levels compared to traditional gasoline-powered mowers. This quieter operation could enable work to commence earlier in the day.

John Deere acknowledges the potential for this technology to address labor shortages within the landscaping industry. Press materials highlighted a report indicating that retaining qualified personnel is a significant obstacle for many companies.

“The availability of skilled labor is a major constraint for our customers,” stated Jahmy Hindman, John Deere’s chief technology officer. “Autonomous solutions offer a pathway to mitigate this challenge.”

Expanding Autonomous Capabilities

Beyond the robot mower, John Deere showcased larger-scale autonomous systems at CES 2025.

Autonomous Tractors for Orchard and Field Management

One announcement featured an autonomous 5ML orchard tractor capable of precision spraying. Initially available with a diesel engine, a fully electric version with comparable performance is planned for future release.

Additionally, a larger 9RX tractor designed for field tillage was presented, employing a 16-camera array for enhanced situational awareness.

Autonomous Dump Truck for Quarry Operations

The most substantial unveiling was an autonomous articulated dump truck intended for use in quarry environments. Autonomous technology is already established in these settings, and the new 460 P-Tier model represents John Deere’s latest contribution.

Future Availability

These advancements aim to streamline essential, yet often overlooked, tasks across various industries. While the larger machines will impact significant operations, the robot mower is the product most consumers are likely to encounter soon.

However, John Deere has not yet specified a firm release date, stating that “exact timing isn’t being shared right now.”
